It's tough!

Hi guys, I'm a senior year undergrad in my teens, I am from what the industry at large considers 'Non-target'. So, here's the deal, I wanted to work for the buy side since I was young, like way young because I had early exposure to it, especially Hedge Funds and here's the problem. I have no work experience hence I am looking for internships and I applied for a lot of them, got rejected. Then, I heard that most people start from sell-side and then move to buy-side, so I applied for Akuna, IMC and Optiver etc. Akuna rejected after third round(one sided vid), yet to take the first round at IMC and Optiver, but for some reason I don't feel as optimistic. On the HF side, I applied for even more firms, GCM, Harris Associates, Verition, Bridgewater and more, and these have yet to reply, and after so many rejects, I don't expect much. What do you guys suggest I do? How do I find internships, the problem I have here is not that I am being rejected, but simply that I am being rejected without so much as an interview, I know most of this is because I don't have any previous work experience and why would any firm want to invest time into a candidate they think will not fit in their firm. How did you start out at HFs, how do I go about starting? Someone told me its always the getting in that is hard, but once you get in, you have access to the industry. Thank you beforehand for your time and suggestions.

You have to find ways to differentiate yourself as you're non-target. People have already written in here about the "back-door" approach where you e.g. start a blog, develop interesting stock ideas etc. You can try investment competitions, undergrad finance clubs, writing on VIC... Once you have top-notch stuff of these, you can try reaching out. There is really not much sense trying to compete w target boyz without anything different to show - there are so many target candidates already, and many of them also excel in extracurricular stuff.
