Marshall Wace Fundamental Analyst Program
Anyone have any impression on the quality of the program and how it stack up with the P72 Academy? They hired 2 people last year.

Doesn't stack up to Point72 at all in terms of training or training recognition. In terms of the fund itself - solid shop I hear. Especially in Europe.
We get it - you work at p72. You’re hardo-ing around this forum comment after comment about how fucking brilliant this programme is. It’s annoying. Go put on some real risk and then come back.
OP asked a question and got an answer. I don't think the program is all that to be honest and I'm taking a banking offer for FT but that's by the by...not sure why you're getting annoying over some random dude on the internet who has 0 impact on your life...
I dunno just seems a bit weird
Are they hiring for 2023?
Yes
How do I apply? Don't see it advertised anywhere

Can someone speak to the type of investing they do in the US, are they a MM? Or somewhere in between a SM and MM? Any anecdotal insights on the quality of PM they attract and fund performance?
interested
not close to them but from a distance seems like they run a discount version of the p72/citadel/mlp/bam pod models. dont get the sense they have top notch talent/huge books. this is for US only i know in europe they do more quant stuff/are a respected name
could be very off so someone who knows better feel free to correct.
What are you talking about? They run large books, can take directional tilts, and have way more AUM/head and less leverage. Their talent all look very strong
based on the p72 vs lone pine thread here there are an insane number of pod trolls in the forum. At this rate we will get a citadel vs TCI thread
But citadel outperformed TCI in 2022!!!! TCI is all beta and MM pods are generating alpha
again im not close to them, but i do know the vast majority of their AUM is not for the US fundamental equity multi-manager strategy - which is what i was commenting on/what this thread seems to be about. so the aum per head calculation makes no sense
similarly i was not aware they could take meaningful directional tilt in this business/was under the impression they try to run a factor/market neutral model, hence my view its discount big-pod.
if i'm wrong on those two specific points let me know, but it sounds like you're just looking at the firm in aggregate...
I've heard from recruiters that they can take up to +/- 30% directionally but factor and beta neutral.
Don’t they lose money every year?
What's the source of this info? It seems AUM is going up every year, so curious why would that would be?
Anyone have color on the program and the recruiting process?
Is there an ongoing application
Bump
They hired 2 people for the program last year, seems like pretty mediocre profile of people they've hired on the junior side, some PMs look impressive. Unsure about competitiveness and comp package.
Would you mind DM me the two names? I just started the process and would like to reach out in case they are willing to share any insight
Bump. How is the interview process? Have a call with HR in the next days
I've been through it and would it say it's the weirdest interview I've ever been in. It's mainly for cultural fit and the things they ask are bizzarre.
Would you mind sharing some of the questions you get asked?
Got increasingly curious after your comments of “bizarre “
Can't say specifics but think of HR people who have never worked a day in finance and the kind of question they would ask, including things like details about your life to assess "cultural fit", things that feel weird to ask a stranger and has no impact on your ability to make money for the firm.
anyone who talked to VJ's team last yr and got impacted? pls dm if so! thx thx
