Meeting with a Partner at a Distressed Hedge Fund
Hi all, I will be getting coffee with a partner of a hedge fund based in APAC that focuses on distressed credit and special sits. How can I demonstrate knowledge and interest in the area? It is purely informational, but I would love to secure an internship if possible.
For context, he has a legal background and is the Head of Restructuring. I am in law school and have previously interned in BBIB.
Honestly, you shouldn't be too stressed about this but just pick a restructuring deal out of Bloomberg or the Journal and study it in detail. You might also want to read Stephen Moyer's distressed debt investing or the Houlihan Lokey case study but that is more for the actual interview.
Thank you for your reply! I have previously read Moyer and the HL case study so I am somewhat familiar with the space.
Regarding the deal, do you recommend focusing on anything in particular? E.g. the cause of distress, company / investor perspective, etc?
Know why the company went out of business, know the options being considered, and have a good sense on the value of the debt and the stock. Good luck.
