Move geography coverage (Asia/EM to US) - how hard is it?
As title says, how hard would it be for someone relatively junior (3-5 years out of college) to move from covering Asian equities at a SM l/s equity fund in Hong Kong back to the US? Initial research seems to suggest the most common openings right now would be to seats covering US names at a MM pod shop. Obviously the universe /opportunity set is completely different. Would this move be possible? Given the current political dynamics I am becoming increasingly wary of my current career path and the future of HK/ China. Background : went to top target in the US, mediocre/bad GPA, did IB internships but went straight to buyside in HK after college. Have US green card so don't need H1b. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
How did you break into buyside in HK right after college?
Don't want to diverge this thread but long story short I got really lucky - there was an opening on my school's career website and I applied and got it. I was already pretty set on the buyside so got the technicals/stock pitch right and fluency in Mandarin helps too
