Networking with a Hedge Fund
During my previous internship at a FoF (focused mostly on Hedge Funds) I met with a couple hedge fund managers to determine their viability as an investment for our clients. I obviously didn't do much talking, but I got to meet some interesting people and learn a couple things. During one meeting, at a particularly interesting fund (about $500M L/S Equity Fund), the manager asked the senior guys whom I went with if they knew anybody who would be a good entry-level analyst. They wanted someone without an MBA, little to no experience, etc.
Considering I fit that profile, would it be appropriate to semi-cold-email the manager and express my interest in a summer internship? The guys I used to work with would give me great recommendations and everything.
Yes, do it. Don't just email though, give them a couple reasons why you would be a good candidate.

Thanks, just realized I didn't point out that I'm a junior at a target school - if that makes a difference.
