Raising money for companies = investment banking (or if you mean funds, placement agency) Merchant bank = basically PE, sometimes referred to as banking/PE hybrid (i.e. i-banks that invest in firms they raise money for) Hedge fund = investing in public markets

The only way I can think of reconciling all this is if you work for a firm that places PIPEs for client companies and in conjunction invests in the PIPE so end buyers know the structurer of the PIPE has skin in the game....

And to answer your original question, put the name of the firm.

i saw merchant bank / hedge fund as we can use our fund to invest in public markets as well. probably more merchant bank using your description.

If you do both PE stuff and HF stuff, that's usually called a hybrid fund. Nomenclature in finance is all screwy anyway, so much stuff overlaps that it's pretty useless.

if anyone asks, just tell them you make money..
