Quant Research at Ares?

Hello, I wanted to ask about Ares' Quant research. I know they are a PE firm but since its quant maybe people here would have any insight.
I have a first round technical interview there and have found some info about it but was wondering:
- Has anyone interviewed here before? If so what could I expect from this first round? (Typical quant or a little lighter since its not quant through and through)

  • How does this group fit into the broader structure of Ares? Is it more like a data group or smth?
    Would Appreciate any insight, thanks.

Based on the WSO Dataset, there's no specific mention of Quant Research at Ares or detailed insights into their interview process for such roles. Ares, as highlighted, is primarily known for its activities in private equity and credit, with a focus on traditional analysis and investment strategies rather than quantitative research. However, drawing from the general context provided:

  1. Interview Expectations: While there's no direct information on Quant Research interviews at Ares, for technical interviews at financial institutions, you can generally expect a mix of technical questions related to your field (quantitative finance, statistical analysis, programming, etc.), possibly some brain teasers to test your problem-solving skills, and questions to gauge your understanding of financial markets. Given Ares' core focus, if they do have a quant research team, the technical aspect might lean towards the application of quantitative methods in credit analysis, risk management, or investment strategy optimization rather than pure quant trading.

  2. Role within Ares: Without specific details on Ares' Quant Research team, it's challenging to pinpoint how such a group fits within the broader structure. Typically, in a PE firm, a quant research team could support various functions, including risk management, portfolio optimization, and quantitative analysis for investment decisions. It might operate as a support group providing insights and tools for the investment teams or could be more integrated into the investment process, depending on the firm's strategy towards quantitative methods.

For a more accurate and detailed understanding, it would be beneficial to reach out directly to Ares or network with current or former employees who can provide insights into the firm's quant research operations and interview process. Networking and direct inquiries can often yield more specific information relevant to your interests and needs.
