Transitioning to activist HF from SM HF
How do activist hedge funds or activist strategies within HFs recruit? I have 4 years buy side experience with a SM HF in the healthcare space and I am interested in exploring the activist strategy. Is there a path to doing this? If so, which HFs would like a person with my profile?
Prior to my SM gig, I have an advanced degree (MD, JD, PhD) and spent a few years in management consulting (Bain, BCG).
I realize I would enjoy work that is more hands on, sometimes even public, and involving deep fundamental work.
look into sarissa run by alex denner - focuses on healthcare activism
Ex Icahn / Viking, that's steak sauce
haha. BS from MIT, MS/PhD from Yale...even weaker sauce. dunno how their returns are, but first fund that came to mind for OP
Sheesh, BS from MIT is like PhD at other places. He had me at Ex-Icahn - guy is prob an animal (just like Keith Meister?)
Following - what is the culture in such funds (including Sarissa)?
not sure you can generalize culture across activist funds since they all come from different pedigrees, i.e. there isn't a tiger / citadel (holocene/candle/woodline) / GS-type source that everyone came from
