Try to get BB or go straight to hedge fund?

Hey, so recruiting for IB at BBs is over, I had many interviews but unfortunately no offers. I do have an opportunity to intern as an analyst at a hedge fund (over 2 billion AUM) with possible FT offer. Are there any possible future benefits of starting on the sell side at a BB vs going straight to a hedge fund?

BB banking offers two benefits: 1) Huge network of people ranging from junior monkey analysts to senior baller MDs 2) Learning how lazy, unprofessional, and unsophisticated most of banking is. I will never be fooled by another banker just because I've been there and done that

I honestly believe the rest can be learned as long as you are willing to put in extra hours and find a FT analyst at your HF who will explain to you how everything in banking works

I think one more benefit is the fact that BB gives you a safe learning ground to learn financial analysis basics/professionalism.

Having your ass on the line for pitchbook edits (which everyone knows is bullshit) vs actually having skin in the game and being responsible for analysis that could result in you losing money for your hedge fund from day 1.

To add on, most BBs have strong training/mentor programs. You are thrown into the fire right away at a hedge fund and may not get quite as much training.

But, you can be successful skipping BB IBD if you perform well and work your ass off at the HF.
