An2 to Associate at another bank

I’m working in a sweaty group in a NY BB and I have no interest in PE. I’d like to leave the city and the group and go elsewhere at some point. I was wondering what the consensus is on going from analyst 2 in this group to associate 1 at another bank. Is it possible after two years? Lots of the positions I’ve seen posted want 3 years experience. What is the process like? Obviously I’d network wherever I apply but just wanted your takes on whether it’s a good move or not.

You can’t be a bottomer & except to hit the ground running as an associate from AN2. Must be a reason why you didn’t get the promotion yet. Get promoted to ass then lateral

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, OP, but there is a reason that the street has shifted to the 3 years as Analyst > Associate model.

You're gonna need to put in at least 3 years if you are trying to lateral, and as others have mentioned, it would be better if you can make the jump at your current spot and then switch over to another firm instead of trying to make the switch as a bottom of the barrel analyst 2.

With the PE hype that stupid ass kids are addicted to these days, Analysts are seen as disposable/worthless, this is why you kids are treated like dirt (you are doing it to yourselves with your "use IB as a stepping stone to PE" obsession).

So in short, it ain't gonna happen.
