Applied to a DACH role, but not fluent in German
Long story short, I applied for a role with English & German as a prerequisite. I got an interview (which should be in English) however my German is ass.
Thing is, most people here are quite international and I hope that my lack of German proficiency could pass considering that the role starts next July and is an Internship.
Am I screwed or can I pass?
Are you based in Frankfurt or nearby? The thing is... Germans are actually all fluent in German and English, especially the people born after '75. In theory there is no reason an English speaking professional should not be working in a DACH region, but pretty much all small talk, the social bits and all other stuff is done in German. As an intern, this shouldn't be a huge deal though. I would hire an intern who isn't fluent in German.
But it is always positive for an employer if the employee is showing a willingness to learn something new, i.e. a language.
I am based in Switzerland.
Thing is I got a relatively good profile for CH but the only issue is my German.
I don’t know how much being friendly or socially attractive could balance the decision in my favor. I am also following intensive courses during this year, it’s maybe worth mentioning on the interview?
