Encourage or discourage?

Hi all,

Doing a 1 year masters program at a T10 business school for sports eligibility. I already had an IB job lined up post graduation from undergrad deferral. I had a classmate of mine ask to coffee chat me to learn more about the investment banking process. His work experience was a small role in Big 4 consulting (more of an audit role), a PE firm, and a small IB stunt.

My concern is that the full time recruiting timeline is almost completely over. I told him that there may be some small regional positions open, but he may have to go down the MBA route. He is an international student from China. Big guy but very soft spoken and friendly to everyone. Worked on a team with him once and he was very hard working. One of those guys that you really wanna see succeed. Does anyone know of shops that are still recruiting? Im not sure if he needs a work visa or not

Or do you think I should recommend he look for other positions in finance in general and lateral down the line?
