IB Credit Underwriting to Private Credit
I work in a tier-2 investment bank as an A1. My group covers a specific industry and basically structures and underwrites debt facilities (includes LBOs, div recaps, refinancings…) but we don’t pitch (only interaction with client is around DD/modeling and terms negotiation). We run the modeling for credit purposes, negotiate terms under Credit Agreement with clients and are in charge of the credit memos and due diligence sessions with clients. My end goal is to shift to private credit because that is what interests me and I think my modeling and terms skills are a natural transition.
Is the move to private credit from a credit underwriting role feasible? My group is not the classic Coverage/DCM/LevFin role but a cross-hybrid between those and we are considered front office. Thanks!
Is this leveraged finance underwriting?
Either way, yes I think you could pivot to PC
Correct leveraged finance underwriting
Sounds like lev lending / levfin credit. Absolutely you can pivot to PC. I've seen numerous people do this.
If LevFin Credit, it's pretty much a pipeline to PC. You'll be considered definitely when applying! I know BofA in particular sends a few across every year.
