Is DC Advisory Becoming a Rising EB?
Do people generally think DC Advisory is climbing up the prestige/pay/exit ladder to become an EB? They have been growing very fast and have done some pretty big acquisitions of very notable independent IB’s to get where they are today and they have been landing a lot of top talent. I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter about whether or not Solomon Partners is a rising EB or not, and DC Advisory is certainly better than PJ Solomon.
No. Almost all of the deals are undisclosed transaction values and technically they have a useable balance sheet under Daiwa Corporate. Dealflow is solid though as you pointed out and its a good spot to land.
Lmaooooo DC Advisory is 3rd rate compared to Solomon Partners. Definitely not considered an EB rising
Next post on WSO: Is KPMG the next up and coming EB?
No
Just curious but what does the “DC” in DC advisory mean/stand for? I’ve always thought that it might be named after Washington DC, since they have an office there and I think I read somewhere that the head person running the firm is based in DC. But I’ve went on the website and it says nothing about the firm originating in Washington DC.
It's not explicitly mentioned, but DC Advisory is named after its parent company Daiwa (Daiwa Capital -> DC).
Does anyone know what groups are based in Washington D.C.? I am definitely assuming they have an ADG coverage group there but are there any other groups?
I’m a current analyst there. DC stands for “Daiwa Corporate” as in “Daiwa Corporate Advisory.” It was frankly not a wise name to choose. I don’t think our Japanese ownership considered the association with Washington DC until it was too late. A lot of people think we are based in DC due to the name, but in reality, we have 23 offices worldwide.
.
Gurl.
Fucked a chick from DC Advisory, wouldn’t say she was elite in any sense of the word
What does that say about your standards then?
Non-existent lmao
Unfortunately, I think I know exactly who you are talking about.
DC is a solid MM/LMM shop that almost exclusively works on sellside sponsor-backed transactions, definitely not a competitor to EBs. Good culture though
Buddy of mine works at DCA and can say the culture there is not good
No, certainly not. Nowhere near EBs in terms of pay, deal flow and mandates. Just a low tier MM shop imo.
I see people use the word "elite" much more liberally nowadays
I called DC Advisory a solid MM and was destroyed by the WSO community. I think there’s an Anti-DC Advisory sentiment in this community for some reason. Seems like a cool place to to end up but Solomon Partners are on much larger deals and personally would not call Solomon a rising EB just yet.
They hired a managing director from Baird who has really amplified growth in their Healthcare practice. Culture seems great in Chicago.
they hired MDs from citi, moelis, a couple from rothschild. Hiring directors from PJT, moelis....seems like a great shop
