Is Finance a respected degree in the UK?
Sorry if this has already been asked many times. I know the vast majority of people who break through here studied Econ or STEM but I was wondering if Finance would be a hindrance?

LSE Finance is prestigious.
"Accounting & Finance" degrees wherever (incl. at LSE) notably less so...
Would you say A+F at Durham would be a bad decision?
Here's my 2 cents:
Firstly what Uni you go to matters a lot more then what you study, it's been said a million times on this site and will continue to be yelled. Uni > Course
Secondly, it's not a bad degree at all, but like other commenters here, you're better off doing Econ or Maths etc. Finance is also only respectable at LSE. A&F is an ok degree and can still place decently, but not as 'prestigious', mathematically rigorous or impressive as Economics/STEM etc.
So studying Finance isn't a hindrance at all, but unless you're at LSE, you're better off doing something else. I've seen people at Durham, Exeter and other Unis studying Finance/A&F who were doing simple linear algebra in comparison to people at LSE/Warwick/Cambridge doing insanely tough quantitative stuff in Economics.
If I see "finance" - I think hardo - i.e. someone who has been training from age 15 to become an excel monkey. If I see economics, I think of someone more worldly, and someone who will inevitably survive when modelling and accounting is automated.
