Jobs that actually help people

Might get some shit for this but I absolutely hate the culture of banking. I genuinely enjoy the nature of the job, learning about businesses, working hard towards closing a deal, and hearing the high level discussions from clients, sponsors, bankers, etc.

What I hate is the lack of purpose. The only thing that motivates others is the pursuit of the bonus/money in general. I used to be like that in college but now i simply don’t care about money or prestige but I do want to work hard towards a mission I care about. I think I would be totally fine crushing 100 hours a week of work towards helping people in need or doing something I’m proud of.

Does anyone have any insight into jobs that need a generally similar skillset to banking (managing funds, negotiations, high-level thinking) that actually help people? Some ideas I had were working in more of an economics role within a global organization such as the IMF, managing funds for UN humanitarian missions, or maybe impact investing? Maybe consulting for humanitarian organizations?

Any insight on jobs/ways people have transferred over?

To be frank, by far the best way you can help others is to continue working in IB and donate a portion of your pay to highly effective international charities.

while that may be the most helpful - I'm not being completely selfless here. I want to help people in the sense I Want to wake up every day and be hyped/motivated to kick some ass at my job and feel like helping the world/community would cause that. RIght now in IB my motivation is severely declining as I constantly question everything I'm told to do and wonder why the fuck am I here in teh first place.

More about having a cool mission for the job itself. Was thinking something like worldbank or the IMF but heard mixed things

Funds or SWF that focus more on ESG and impact investing. Really helps people. There is a lot of change happening in finance and this is about finding your home within the industry more than you not liking the culture at a specific bank.

Distressed PE helps people by alleviating them of having jobs that do not contribute to maximizing the value of their portfolio companies.
