Lazard Tech Prestige?

What's the word on Lazard tech on the street? How well are they respected? They've closed some really big deals with Google, but I didn't really know much about their tech group until recently.

How well do they stack with M&A at GS TMT or MS Menlo? Or even Qatalyst or Evercore?

Lazard’s SF tech group is solid - one of the better groups at the firm in terms of deal flow and exit opps (esp if you’re looking for tech PE roles). Know of a few folks from there that had amazing exits (Thoma, Silver Lake, TCV, etc)

The group’s bread and butter is buy side M&A for companies like IBM and Google (+ a couple others) but last I heard they were also doing quite a bit of sponsor software deals. Think they work cross office with their Boston office on those.

I think Q/GS would both give you a slight leg up on exit opps, but I still think you could place just about anywhere from Laz within the tech PE universe if you hustle. I would say it’s on par with EVR and MS.

I wouldn't consider myself super knowledgeable on JEF SF, but can offer my personal read.

My perception is that the firm as a whole has a lot of momentum atm, but I haven't really seen firsthand a ton of recent deal flow for their tech group, especially on the M&A front.

Getting into MFs or top-tier tech UMM funds would likely be a lot harder from JEF SF than from any of the groups mentioned above (unless you have a unique angle, i.e. D1 athlete, family connections, MAYBE diversity). You could probably hustle your way into some UMM funds, but unlike GS/Q/LAZ/EVR/MS, the name alone probably won't open the door.

Totally fair - I would say Q and GS have a slight leg up on MS but I don’t disagree that MS > EVR/LAZ in most aspects

Still strong. Have done a good number of deals recently. Haven't gotten public cred for all of them, but have gotten paid, due to various market conditions.
