Seeking Advice: Choosing Between Divisions for Summer Internship at RBC

Hey everyone,

I hope you're all doing well. I'm currently facing a bit of a dilemma and could use some guidance. I recently completed a spring internship at RBC in London, where I gained some valuable experience. However, I'm at a crossroads for my summer internship placement.

My primary interest lies in M&A within the healthcare sector. Unfortunately, the structure for the summer internship at RBC dictates that I can only choose between product or sector in GIB (Global Investment Banking). This limitation complicates things for me.

Initially, I leaned towards avoiding Global Markets due to my perception of needing a strong quantitative background for trading roles. However, I stumbled upon equity sales, which piqued my interest immensely.

My main concerns revolve around the fact that RBC's deal flow in healthcare isn't as robust compared to its focus on infrastructure and utilities. Additionally, the competitiveness of securing an M&A summer placement is daunting, especially considering the majority of the spring cohort are vying for IBD positions.

I'm torn between staying within the M&A realm, albeit possibly facing stiffer competition, or exploring a potentially fascinating opportunity in equity sales within Global Markets.

Any insights or advice on navigating this decision would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!
