should I play up something I did in high school?
I go to a target school with in a target major, but one of the coolest things I've ever done was develop and run an affiliate-marketing website in high school--think freeIpods--that at its peak earned me about 60K in one month. The site was maintained during the my junior and senior years and definitely helped me get into college, but I don't know if it's the type of thing I can keep taking advantage of while I'm looking for an internship or a job. What do you guys thinl?
do you really want them to think of you as a telemarketer/pyramid schemer?
Disclaimer: The post above has been made by someone who is not currently employed in IBD, and has not had an interview yet...
you are a salesman...so are bankers.
thats good shit man, use it as much as you can. Why'd you drop it if it was making you so much money?
I would mention it breifly during the elevator pitch and then expand upon it if they ask you about it.
Actually, I never "dropped it" per se--a company bought it from me near the end of my Senior year, which is just as well since I had to prepare for college. The site itself was definitely past its peak too as it was very much fad-driven like Freeipods. Mine had to do with a certain popular Microsoft video game console (and later, a sequel to a certain popular game), although I'm sure it wasn't close to being as profitable as freeipods since there were literally tens of other competing affiliate-advertising sites).
Buut yeah, that's another story. Thanks for the responses. I guess I'll include a bit about it on my resume and cover letter despite the irrelevance to finance.
