Tips for lateraling?

I’m currently at a regional boutique hoping to lateral to NYC sometime in 2H 24 and am hoping I can get some advice. For reference, my bank does LMM, doesn’t have an office in NY, and I’m from a non-target. Would prefer to lateral in as An2 and honestly don’t care if I miss out on CY23 bonus for the right opportunity. Any tips?

Network with banks/groups that post open spots and be knowledgeable about the space and their positioning. There will be more spots (but also more competition) in September after bonuses are paid out. I'd start looking in the spring and be proactive about talking to people at the banks that do post spots.

From LMM, you are probably looking at MM / boutique banks. BB/EB would have been doable in 2021, but they have a ton of candidates right now, mostly from other BBs and already in NYC, so I wouldn't spend too much time on those.
