Working at a BB/EB in Toronto would be ideal as you have the option of transferring internally and the experience/brand name would be more applicable with US. They are also more selective with which deals they work on (also many are amongst the top in the M&A league table for Canada).

As for Big 5, I would say any M&A group would be the safest option (or ECM/DCM if you are interested in Capital Markets).

I should warn you that the last few years, US banks have been hiring like crazy due to so much deal flow so it was a perfect time for Canadians to lateral but now we are entering a slow down period where layoffs will probably happen and hiring will be slowing down drastically over the next couple years.

Wishing you the best - good luck!

I was also curious if you’d recommend an EB over a BB for the Toronto region? Or vice versa? Any insight regarding that would be great too. I know some of the EBs are up there in the league tables as you mentioned, just wondering how both fare regarding exit opps and potential lateral to NYC. Thanks
