Truist IB vs Citi Commercial Banking

Im lucky enough to have gotten offers at both Truist IB (Atlanta) and Citi commercial banking (NY). I want to do IB but struck out at the good firms. Which would you guys advise taking? Thanks!

This is an extremely specific goal. There’s thousands of factors that influence whether you’ll get a job at GS TMT.

In either case you are probably multiple steps away from being at the literal #1 group at the literal #1 bank on Wall Street, and it would do you some good to process that reality. It’s gonna take time, multiple moves (maybe including educational moves) to get there. Neither of these options will make it easy to get there - should’ve gone to Ivy League, gotten a 3.9+, and had a rich dad if you wanted that.

More generally, you won’t lateral from Citi commercial banking to a strong tech IB group. You likely won’t lateral from Citi commercial banking to any good IB group. You would be lucky to lateral into any IB group at all, considering you won’t be building that skillset. I’m hesitant to recommend this option.

You may lateral from Truist Tech IB to a better Tech IB group. You may then at a later date lateral from that better tech IB group to one of the best. But this is all hypothetical brother.
