Which other areas should I go for?
Hi,
I'm a senior in college and I did not get a return offer from my IB internship in NY this summer and up until recently I had a bit of hope that I maybe could get some other opportunity in IB. At this point, I acknowledge that it's virtually impossible and that I should aim for something else. Which other areas (in finance or consulting or anything else) should be good to go for that may leave me some chance to lateral back into IB in mid 2025?
Also, I'm an international student, does anyone know if it's easy to switch jobs while on OPT?
It depends on the role but nothing too crazy for an internship. If it’s sales for example you’ll just be expected to have a good attitude and general basic knowledge such as stock etfs mutual funds, beta, standard deviation. 1. Know the markets and have your own original outlook 2. Pay attention specifically to interests rates and what effect they have on fixed income, mortgages, and other factors that can be looked up on gpt or from watching CNBC 3. Obvious one, know the company and a few of their strategies or products and history. It’s a good gig in the right place and role, there are jobs for all skill sets. As for lateraling back into banking I can’t help there but assume an investment associate and research associate role will help but marketing teams generally take care of the powerpoints.
Sorry it wasn't clear. I'm a senior student in college and did not get a return offer from this past internship. I am now looking for full-time jobs and I'm wondering which fields should I go for as a full-time employee with the potential to lateral into IB after one year of full-time experience.
