A white lie or a reason for rejection? Applying for penultimate position in my graduate year.
Hello all, I am going into my last semester of my undergrad in Australia. I didn't get any internships last yr in banking (I was a late bloomer when it comes to realising I wanted to be in IB) and instead have worked for a reputable wealth management group part-time. I also have great extracurricular finance roles, perfect grades and am interview ready.
I believe I am placed in a very good position to achieve a summer analyst role, but not a graduate role, given I do not have an IB summer internship under my belt.
What is everyone's thoughts on applying for a SA internship for penultimate students and just saying 'I have pushed a couple of units to next year' or 'I am planning on doing honours' when asked how long I have left. In reality, I would finish all my units this coming semester and am not looking to do honours, making me a graduate and not a penultimate student. Would boutiques and bulge banks seek to verify this sort of info if I got an offer?
As I write this out, the more wrong it seems. Do people do this? Do they get away with it? Perhaps I should take the loss and just focus on my graduate future. Its just frustrating because I know I have what it takes and tick the required boxes now for a summer gig.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
