About taking a leave of absence
Hi everyone,
I've recently faced some health challenges, specifically flu-induced bronchitis, which required me to take a 5-6 week hiatus from school. Thankfully, my professors have been very accommodating. However, with final exams approaching in the next 2-3 weeks, I am concerned about my ability to catch up and perform well.
I am currently contemplating taking a leave of absence to fully recover and return next semester more prepared. I am a sophomore at a target school, but I transferred here from another country, which required me to adjust academically and even repeat some levels. At 23, I’m aware I’m a bit older than typical undergraduate students.
My main concern is how taking a leave might affect my recruiting prospects, especially given my non-traditional path. I would appreciate any insights or experiences you might share regarding how recruiters view academic leaves, particularly in the finance sector.
Thank you for your help!
Don’t mention the year of absence to banks. They would view bronchitis as a sign of weakness and a liability. The best bankers have naturally healthy lungs 24/7.
Thank you for your reply. It will be for this semester, it will not be year-long. I think if they look at my transcripts they can figure out my leave of absence eventually. Would you recommend I accept somewhat poor grades rather than taking a medical leave of absence if I am considering recruitment?
