Bad idea to enter processes just for interview reps?
Have been prepping to leave my current shop for awhile now and will kick off lateral recruiting in the coming days. There are only a handful of cities where I’d realistically accept an offer given my geographic preferences, but is it a bad idea to apply to positions in cities where I have no intention of living? I am not the strongest interviewer (hence why I need reps) and think it’s highly unlikely I convert anything early on. However, my concern is that I, by a stroke of luck, make it deep into a process in a city like Minneapolis (no hate, just not for me) and have to decline a FT offer. Does this make me look like an asshole for wasting everyone’s time? Or can I BS an excuse (e.g. current shop convinced me to stay, comp too low, etc.) without coming off like a complete dick? Would also obviously stop entering those processes once I felt I gained the reps to convert something in one of my preferred destinations.
TLDR: Need interview reps but don’t want to look like a dick for turning down FT offers.
