Commodities too narrow early on?

Currently working in AM (LDN) as a MA analyst and long term want to be in equity research but had no luck with securing a role here. I have been offered a commodities research analyst role but unsure if this is too narrow and not transferable to other products. Would lateraling out of commodities into equity research be possible or would this be an unrealistic punt?
