Consulting Investment Research to Equity Research???
So, recently I have been offered a position at a investment consulting firm ( $40B AUM) and it begins as a client focus role with basically grunt work and eventually turns into a investment research position across different asset classes and performing manager research, investment research, etc..
What I am wondering is if say 2-3 years out, will I be able to translate this experience to become an equity research analyst on the buy or sell-side to go in line with my long term goals of becoming a PM. Or is it completely non-relevant experience and I should pursue other positions that have more of a valuing and analytical side? At that point in my career I am wondering what job I would qualify for outside of consulting.
Any insight would be great.
