Full time recruiting from a target school and having no luck
So I’m an AN1 but I’m friends with someone who is a senior in college. She has a ~3.9 at a top 20 college. High SAT and high school valedictorian. No Internships, but has had a shit ton of research experience and worked meaningful jobs throughout college. A liberal arts major but has As in Organic Chemistry, econ classes, etc. Clearly very smart. She has applied to so many jobs and have had absolutely zero luck. She’s mostly focusing on high finance roles and consulting. She recently ramped up the networking with alumni, but she fears her efforts are too late.
What advice would you give my friend? I kinda got lucky bc I had my SA role and then a return offer so I never really had to spend any time FT recruiting. I kinda feel bad because on paper they’re probably a way better applicant than me but I didn’t have to suffer in the job application process nearly as much as they are right now. It feels kinda unfair tbh. Any people here have any insight to this situation? I really want to help her out.
I mean I speculate banks will start hiring more maybe at the start of Q1 or q2 in 2023, but if I was her, I would have some backup plans in case IB/Consulting does not work out, because the truth is that she is going up against a lot of candidates right now with SA experience, and most of these kids will have similar academic credentials (high sat, top 20, etc) These kids (including me) have been networking, studying, interviewing since Freshman/Sophomore year for IB, so her lack of interviews will definitely show compared to other candidates.
Her best bet would have been diversity pipeline. Not sure why she decided to recruit for these roles so late.

That is what I have been hearing from peers who are recruiting for FT. I know for sure BOFA told one of my friends that they will have to reassess hiring needs and may start recruiting closer to 2023 Q1. Also, it just makes sense for any companies to reassess hiring needs after their earnings come out. But everything is speculative.
No internships is rough, would recommend she get one during the school year.

Not to be a dick but no internships is a pretty big red flag. Work experience trumps all else. Imo it goes work experience > GPA = School > major > extra curricular and everything else
No internships and she’s competing with CS incoming AN1s and fresh AN1s looking to lateral.
