Insight days on Spring week CV?

Don’t have any relevant work experience for IB spring week CV. Only things IB-related are a couple insight days - do these have a place on the CV or will they not be taken seriously, seeing as they’re not actual work experience and are only a day long? On the other hand, I doubt that every other 18 year old has great work experience anyway. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, along with any other spring week cv tips.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, including insight days on your CV for Spring Week applications is definitely a good move, especially if you don't have extensive work experience in investment banking. Here’s why and some additional tips:

  1. Value of Insight Days: Even though they are brief, insight days are structured to give you a glimpse into the world of investment banking. They demonstrate your interest and proactive effort in understanding the industry. This is particularly important for candidates who are just starting out.

  2. Highlight Learning Outcomes: When listing these insight days, focus on what you learned and how it has prepared you for a career in investment banking. Mention any specific skills or knowledge you gained that are relevant to the industry.

  3. Balance Your CV: Since you’re at an early stage in your career, it’s expected that you won’t have extensive work experience. Balance your CV by highlighting academic achievements, any relevant projects or coursework, and extracurricular activities that demonstrate skills like leadership, teamwork, or analytical abilities.

  4. Early Applications: As you’ve noted, not every 18-year-old will have significant work experience. Applying early can be advantageous as some firms review applications on a rolling basis. This shows eagerness and initiative.

  5. Networking and Societies: If possible, join relevant societies at your university. These can not only bolster your CV but also provide networking opportunities and further insight into the industry.

  6. Tailor Your CV: Make sure your CV is tailored to investment banking. Highlight any quantitative skills, courses, or projects that are relevant. Even roles that might not seem directly relevant can be framed in a way that showcases transferable skills like problem-solving, leadership, and diligence.

Remember, every piece of experience counts at this stage, and how you present it can make a significant difference.

Yes finance related insight days will be useful to include as well as any tangentially related finance related exp. Perhaps online courses/events can be useful e.g. the JPMorgan forage course (HR mentioned they like to see it). Also include examples of you excelling/winning at competitions e.g. sports/other achievements to help set you out apart as an impressive candidate. Think about interesting hobbies/experiences that you can include too to help you stand out. Make sure CV is well formatted e.g. use wso CV format and has no mistakes. Rolling basis matters a lot so apply the day they open (use the Bristol tracker/LSE tracker to get an idea of dates but do check yourself as occasionally they are slow/inaccurate). Nail your tests (can practice using JTP) and get good at doing hirevues. Lots and lots of resources online ab all this (LSE BIG insta page, WSO etc)
