International Exchange

Considering going on an international exchange for various reasons but wanted to know if it’s viewed positively on a resume/by employers (or generally how it’s viewed) for someone who wants a career in finance/banking specifically (particularly going to a well known school such as Bocconi). I also go to a major non-target but I have a few solid internship experiences

Based on the highest ranked content on WSO, going on an international exchange, especially to a well-regarded institution like Bocconi, can be viewed positively by employers in the finance and banking sector. Here's how it breaks down:

  1. Global Perspective: An international exchange program can provide you with a global perspective, which is highly valued in the finance and banking industry. This experience can demonstrate your ability to adapt and thrive in diverse environments, a crucial skill in a globalized market.

  2. Networking Opportunities: Attending a well-known school such as Bocconi can open up significant networking opportunities. The connections you make can be invaluable as you navigate your career in finance and banking.

  3. Educational Diversity: Adding an international institution to your resume can showcase your educational diversity and eagerness to learn from different academic cultures. This can be particularly appealing to employers who value diverse perspectives and innovative thinking.

  4. Language Skills: If the exchange program offers the opportunity to improve or learn a new language, this can be a significant advantage in the banking sector, where multilingual skills are often prized, especially in roles that require dealing with international clients.

  5. Demonstrates Initiative: Choosing to study abroad shows initiative and a willingness to step out of your comfort zone. These are qualities that employers in finance and banking look for in candidates, as they often translate to a proactive and resilient employee.

While you're already on a solid path with a few internships under your belt, adding an international exchange to your resume, particularly from a prestigious school like Bocconi, can enhance your profile. It's not just about the academic experience; it's about showing potential employers that you're committed to broadening your horizons and capable of navigating the complexities of the global finance landscape.
