Job search - two options and better chance of eventual PE exit opportunities

I have ~3 years of work experience and have the goal of ideally breaking into PE in direct investments eventually. I currently have two possibilities to choose from for a next career move, and was wondering which may give me the better possibility of achieving my long-term goal.

The first is an investment position at a large (several billion dollar) family office, investing in PE funds. Essentially I'd be evaluating managers and underlying investments, so it feels similar to a FoF position.

The second is a kind of chief of staff/corporate strategy role for a MM PE fund ($5-10B AUM). I'd be working with the CEO to build out strategic plans for the firm, and helping with any other sort of corporate/strategic work that deals with the organization's growth.

I'm most curious to hear the opinion of anyone who works in direct PE investing, or worked in a role similar to one of these with the goal of eventually breaking into PE, but any opinion is appreciated given I have a short turnaround to choose. Also, does one of these two seem vastly more interesting or like a much better opportunity?
