Joining the game late
Ok here is my story...
I have completed 3 years at the University of Tennessee. For the first 2.5 years I didnt think a single thought of what I would like to do as a career. I was majoring in psychology if that tells you anything. Well over the past 6 months I have truely been motivated. I dont know where it came from but I discovered the world of investing/trading/finance/etc. I applied to the college of business at my school and I will have officially switched majors as of this fall semester. I plan on majoring in finance with a concentration in economics. Because I took so many psych classes, I will have my minor in that as well.
I have been reading and learning everything I can about the markets. I have spent hours everyday just learning about investing. I know that I want a career in somethign like this. So that leads me to my first question... What areas would I have a chance of breaking into? It seems like I have missed the boat already for ibanking, but I am sure there are other fields. I know it comes down to my personal preference, so I am just looking for options or opinions from you guys. I dont know how hard it would be but equity research seems like a direction I would want to head, also portfolio management. Im sure that would be a long shot though.
The second part of my question is... what can I do now to help me succeed later? I am open to ANY suggestions. I know how competitive this job market is, so I am looking for any edge I can get (especially because I am starting so late). I am 100% dedicated to making it in the financial world.
I know my post might seem a little strange, but I dont really have anyone to ask about these career choices. I cant really find anyone that can recommend things to get me "ahead".
Thanks for any responses.
