Landing Summer Analyst offer in Aus

Hi All, just seeking any advice regarding landing a SA offer in Sydney/Melbourne in 2021-2022. Unsure if I am overestimating the difficulty in landing the first round interview. Any answers would be much appreciated!

I can answer some of these.

6.5/7 is definitely considered good enough. 99+ definitely carries some weight, I'd say as long as you got 95+ it doesn't really matter too much.

Banks definitely don't shy away from interstate applications, UQ recently has really been outperforming USYD/UMELB/UNSW in some of the SA programs (Citi, for example).

I'd say those 2 internships are definitely enough to be competitive, as long as you can sell them well in an interview.

FMAA/UNIT exec positions are always nice ECs to have on your resume, aside from that just don't be a robot and be a good bloke.

Not necessarily a bad look, but from memory Melbourne applications for BB were due two weeks before Sydney which is something to consider. In a few occasions during interviews, they asked me why I wanted to move to Sydney versus Melbourne and vice versa.

For banking IMO, I think Sydney is the place to be. More coverage groups and bigger teams and more deal flow, even though people from Melbs tend to get staffed on Syd deals at times. Don’t get me wrong, I love Melb, but I think Syd is better for career prospects.

Hi,

Asking a question for the comments who’ve said that there are strong prospects from UQ. Are these people who have done the BAFE (Bachelor of advance finance and economics) or the BComm/Law at UQ. The BAFE is 3 years compared to 5 year BComm/Law. Thanks
