Leveraging certificates into a relevant position?
Howdy. Find myself in a predicament and figured I'd seek some third-party opinions.
About me:
- Work in a boutique growth equity type fund, specializing in small-/microcaps. Some of my co-workers refer to us as corporate finance, so take the previous sentence with a grain of salt. ~9 months of experience.
- From a Tier2/Tier3 European country.
- BA in econ, MA in quant econ. Just got my CFA level 1, attending level 2 in November 2022.
- Extremely fluent in English, got several years of German under my belt (around 7?) but I don't see any application for it on a day-to-day basis.
Current situation overview:
- Workload-to-pay at current position is poor
- Willing to jump ship, but local market heavily based around corporate banking and Big 4, so no exit opportunities
The goal:
I'm trying to figure out a way to get into a Tier 1 European country, mainly Germany or Switzerland, preferably into long-only AM. Given my non-target background, and little networking opportunities as I'm not living in a T1 EU country, I am pursuing a CFA charter (by the end of 2023) with further goals for CAIA, CFA ESG and maybe even something 3rd (CIMA, FRM, FIC etc.).
The questions:
Will these certificates actually add the value that I am assuming? Or is me getting to a better position strictly a networking & language barrier problem? Instead of going for CAIA/CFA ESG, would perfecting German be more relevant?
All answers appreciated.
