Need help breaking into IB
Hey guys. So I’m currently a freshman in a non-target school (Florida Atlantic University) and am really determined to break into investment banking. Unfortunately, I’m kinda lost. I don’t really know what to do other than the usual study hard and networking. Any tips on how to stand out from students from target schools or even older students?
Network your ass off, set a goal for networking with 10 people a week. You need to break your larger goal, IB at a BB, into smaller goals. Strive for an internship sophomore (or freshman summer idk how old u are) at a small WM or advisory firm - typically you’ll be the only intern and shadow a wealth advisory but it’s at least something on the resume you can speak to. Start taking courses on the industry, there are many good IB courses out there that will enhance your modeling experience (ie. live and die for excel and ppt) you can speak to these courses on your resume under a “freelance studies” or “independent research” column.
Lastly, look in the school database for alumni who have broke in, join any student led funds that exist on campus if they don’t that’s okay.
This is a good start - just set yourself up so that you’re the best candidate for a junior year SA position.
