Networking in Switzerland (Cold-Calling, E-mailing, Walk-ins)
Hello all,
I'm from the U.S. studying in Switzerland. I didn't get invitations for all the interviews I expected from the bank here so I'm thinking of doing some proactive networking. I was just wondering if anyone knows here if there are considerations to keep in mind when considering the differences of networking in the U.S. vs Switzerland. I've seen posts where people have walked in to offices, cold-called senior bankers, or just simply sent an e-mail.
I was wondering if anyone with international, or even Swiss experience, here knows which one of these things would be completely unacceptable and which would be. I know the Swiss are a bit more conservative on some respects compared to Americans so I don't want to come off as too aggressive.
If you're Swiss-German, Merci Vielmal!
Interested.
.
Definitely works. Try a few hedgies around Pfäffikon.
Interested as well. Thanks f4tality for the advices.
f4tality, thanks for that.... I think you make really good points, so then I figure we shouldn't be doing this: //www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/walk-in-cold-call-question Maybe that can work in the U.S. but a bit too much for Switzerland (after all, everyone loves making appointments here)
So far my next plan for networking is to contact people from the 'alumni' list, more like the mentor list here.
@SonnyZH: I will definitely look into that at Pfäffikon, any ideas on how to get some kind of a list. I don't think there is a Hedge Fund category on Google Maps....hmm I have to think about this some more, I'll try searching asset management/private banking in German around that area for one...
Do you need to speak fluent German in order to network and secure job offers and interviews?
actually interesting...
