OPT
Hello fellow chimps,
I'm about to begin my MSc in Finance (STEM) at a top public university on the West Coast. As an international student, I'm concerned about the challenges of U.S. immigration and securing employment post-graduation, espcially OPT to HB-1 and general offers.
Could anyone share their experiences finding a job in the U.S. after their studies? I bring one year of full-time experience in Real Estate Secondaries investment at a German bank, along with two years in Private Equity at a large European fund.
Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Bump. Also starting a 2 year stem master at mit, and wondering how’s gonna be. (I’m from an european target)
I feel like MIT is a good shot, however I think most US peeps don't care about EU target schools beforehand. Do you have FT experience?
Contrary to what you may have heard, and despite universities classifying non-science courses as STEM to qualify for STEM OPT, there isn't a shortage of people in the USA competing for finance, tech, etc. jobs. As long as you are not taking a huge loan, and are prepared to be part of the 85% applicants rejected in the H1 lottery every year, you should be fine. If Trump gets elected, clearing the H1 barrier may get harder.
