Possibility of landing a job in asset management in US as immigrant

Hi there,
I am currently a head of fund management in Thailand with 11 years of experience as fund (portfolio) manager, buy-side analyst, and sell-side analyst. I plan to immigrate to US to continue to work in asset management industry. I am currently working on getting employment-based immigrant visa (with no job offer required), which hopefully I can get it and get the green card once I arrive to US.

As immigrant, I just want to get the sense how difficut to break into asset management industry in US? Do companies preferably hire locals more? What are things you would advise me to do to increase chance of getting the job?  Do asset management companies value CFA much in US?

For my qualifications, I have 11 years of working experience as fund (portfolio) manager, buy-side analyst, and sell-side analyst. I used to work for global asset management in Thailand, and had awards for managing the fund as well. I am CFA Charterholder. I have expertise in stock picking, financial modeling, valuation, portfolio management. But also open for any courses you think it is interesting to take or what actions you think recruiter would look for.

I don't mind moving down the ladder as long as I can get the investment management job.

Looking forward to advice here.
Thank you very much.

Sawasdee krub Khun Mooping. I'm more of an IB person and (assumingly) considerably younger than you so do take my answer with a grain of salt.

How long will it be until you leave for the US? Whilst I believe that your experiences are enough to earn you a spot at any decent AM company, it might be easier if you were to network around first before moving there. I recommend going to networking events in Thailand and meeting people who have some connections to firms in the States or just people who are in the US financial circle. Founders and Creative Entrepreneurs (no personal affiliation) organises a lot of networking events in Thailand. Bitkub M Social at Emquartier can be a great place to meet people as well, although most of them are crypto-bros. The upcoming Traders Fair on the 25th and Asia Pillars on the 2nd of March also seem like great opportunities.

Anyhow, if you are still lost do feel free to send me a message, and we can discuss this in further detail and in Thai as well. Chokdee krub.
