Quitting without another job lined up?

First year analyst at BB here coming to the one year mark. I absolutely hate it, culture sucks in my group, been work from home the entire time and my mental health is coming close to the breaking point. I have been applying to a ton of jobs but nothing has hit yet. Thoughts on leaving at the one year mark, so I don't have to pay back the signing bonus and focusing full time on the job search? Looking to leave finance completely

With the hot lateral market, there should be a decent amount of opportunities to lateral, especially after bonus (since a lot of analysts, like yourself, are thinking about leaving after bonus). Sounds like you should try to hang on, as a different firm with a different culture might change your mind about the industry.

Of you're looking to stay in IB then keep up the search and take advantage of the hot market. If not, then maybe worth it to wait it out until Sep. (should be bearable during the summer) and try and see what kind of opps exist in other areas of the bank

In any case, no point in quitting without anything lined up. That's a risk you're taking alone and frankly, you can easily avoid it.

Laborare Pugnare Parati Sumus

Absolutely DO NOT quit until you have lined up another role. In your desperation and emotion, just start applying to a TON of other jobs. Take your new offer and run with it. Don't attempt a resume gap.

"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." - Bruce Lee
