It really isn't easier here lol (even at a target), you can try but there's enough and more students struggling to land summers already. + a lot of students who took an extra year to do a master's because it's so hard to land something good. can't you just wait it out and try recruit for some of the big players that have processes later (in the US)? (the ones that recruit starting september)
Based on the insights from the WSO dataset, if you're considering running the London SA25 process as an American, it's crucial to understand the differences between the US and UK recruitment processes. The London recruitment scene is distinct in several ways:
Networking and Structured Events: In London, networking has a different flavor. It's more about attending structured networking events rather than the informal coffee chats prevalent in the US. These events are crucial for getting your CV flagged and gaining insights that can help you navigate the recruitment process. Make sure to actively participate in these structured networking opportunities to get noticed by HR.
Multi-faceted Application Process: The UK recruitment process is comprehensive. It evaluates candidates on various fronts including experience, story, networking, standardized test scores, languages, target school, and sometimes, a bit of luck. This means you need to have a well-rounded application to stand out. Unlike in the US, where you might compensate for a weakness in one area by excelling in another, in London, all aspects of your application need to be strong.
Cultural and Process Differences: Be aware of the cultural and procedural differences in recruitment between the US and UK. For instance, the importance of target schools, the role of online assessments, and the types of questions asked during interviews can vary. Familiarize yourself with these differences to tailor your approach accordingly.
Start Early and Be Prepared: The recruitment timeline in London can be different from the US. Start your preparation early, research the firms you're interested in, and understand their specific recruitment timelines and processes.
Leverage London-centric Resources: Given the differences in recruitment cultures, it's beneficial to use London-centric resources for your preparation. This includes forums, guides, and advice specifically tailored to the London market. Avoid relying solely on US-centric advice as it may not be fully applicable to the London context.
In summary, running the London SA25 process as an American is feasible, but it requires a strategic approach tailored to the unique aspects of the UK recruitment landscape. Make sure to leverage structured networking events, prepare a comprehensive application, understand the cultural differences, and utilize London-centric resources for your preparation.
