Sophomore Summer 2017 Internship French Banks

I am starting to explore options for my summer 2017 internship. I am a rising sophomore at a target school. I am originally french and so I'm thinking of BNP and SocGen offices in New York. I know some sophomores seem to get them even though their internship programs appear geared towards penultimate students. Is the networking route the only way to go? I have friends who are currently first year analysts there but I guess I need people much higher up. Any one have any advice on how to get at least considered for one of these positions?
