Still no Job. Have had many interviews but, no luck.
So I still have no job - only been out of school for one month though. I am interested in either a career in equity research or somewhere along the lines of hedge funds and private equity. My long term goal is to become a PM. I have just taken the level I CFA exam and have had numerous interviews with a range of firms from investment consulting, PE, AM, and S&T. I am going into the final round of an investment consulting firm with roughly $40B in AUM but I really do not think that it is going to help me go down the path I desire.
That being said, should I just keep going for a job that I really want or is it better to get a job that might not be relevant experience but it is still in the industry?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Take something asap for now and then jump ship when you think it is appropriate.
So even if this investment consulting job is not really what I want at all I should take it and still apply vigorously elsewhere?
Yes. Once you're down a few months into your new investment consulting job or even a year, you could make a case that how investment consulting has prepared you for an equity research job and that sell-side investment banks interest you more than the buy-side consulting firms. And hence, you're jumping ships.
But for now this looks like a great opportunity and certainly much better than being unemployed. If you get it, take it.
Ambani Thanks for your response. That sounds like a good idea, just have to turn my experience into relevance.
Yes, unless your goal in life is to collect unemployment checks every month.
