This sucks and I hate myself

22 summer interned at a well know large financial services firms as a Product management intern. Best 10 weeks of my life. I get the verbal yes for a FT. I knew I always wanted to be in financial services(btw CIS major from a semi target school). Month later into the fall semester I get the call saying there has been a budget cut, and none of the interns are coming back. I look for FT positions I am applying all positions at BBs and middle market funds. I only get back from a BB operations program. I do the interviews and super day (yes there are super days for back office ).Summer 2023 I start the role, at first I am like okay I can make something out of it but now, I fucking hate it. I am in the middle of no where, fucking blue collar workers make more than me. I feeling I am hurting my career being here. The only reason that’s forcing me to stay is the brand name (BB bank )and the fucked job market. They keep sayings about the benefits of the 2 year program but I am sceptebale of it. I feel like a major loser. I see all these people in NYC living their best life while I just go to the gym after work and sit in front of the couch and watch South Park. Like I fucking hate myself.

Speaking from experience as I interned in operations once (at a very well known place). If you don't enjoy the operations work, sprint the f out of there. The longer you spend time in operations, the harder it will be to get out of operations, no matter the brand name of your bank/fund. Even my former co-workers in operations call operations a black hole. In this economy, it's better to go to grad school and try to pivot into something you enjoy working on.

get the fuck out there.

People want so bad to have the BB brand names on their CV that they will accept some shitty positions (operations) instead of going with other paths that may be better for their career development.

What I would do would be to go out there and look for other positions in other roles, not necessarily banking, where the company/brand name may be unknown, but the work you'll do will be waaay more interesting, intellectual challenging and where you still can learn skills that are relevant for finance (corporate banking, etc.).

I'm a big believer that one should prioritize skills > brand names.
