University Specific SA/FT Recruit Quotas?

I get the feeling, through comments on WSO, that many banks, whether they are BB or Boutique, have a certain number of "spots" seemingly reserved for each 'target' university they recruit at.

Is this true, are you really only competing against fellow classmates within your university? Cornell kids compete for a set amount of Cornell specific spots, Brown kids compete for the set amount of Brown specific spots, etc.

I assume this recruiting system is not totally rigid, so how flexible is this structure? Say in a given year there a lot of great candidates at Dartmouth but not so many at Cornell, are "spots" reassigned?

no/yes

basically lets say you go to upenn, and GS recruits on campus

they have 30 interview spots, so 30 kids from upenn will get selected for those spots, and out of those 30 lets assume 5 get a 2nd round invite

however during those 2nd/final rounds you will be in NY/other major city office, and then you will see kids from harvard, cornell, stanford, etc

so basically you will be competing against people from your school for first rounds, however when you have superdays you will be competing against candidates from other schools

The above is true but I can confirm that while they may take 5 from Penn, they will only take 1-2 at most from a semi-target. At least my semi-target anyway.
