UTS to USYD transfer for IB
Hi, I'm a Dutch international student at UTS doing a bachelor's in Econ. I'm halfway through my first semester + I have 24 credits from recognition from prior learning. My sister works in VC in LDN and she urged and inspired me to get into IB/PE/HF/VC or Consulting starting ASAP. I know getting high marks + internships + ECs are going to help me set myself up as best as possible. That's what I'm focusing on most now. However, considering UTS is not a target school, should I try to get into USYD after my first year once my first 48 credit points are complete? USYD is more expensive and I've heard it is easier to get higher marks at UTS. Should I, therefore, apply after my 2nd year at UTS, or does making this transfer now or later (or perhaps not at all) not change a thing as long as I get good internships + high grades + ECs.
Are high grades as important if you are at a target school?
Mind I didn't get the highest grades in high school in Europe, but can I compensate with high marks at uni to increase my eligibility to transfer? Also, I saw that UTS had an internship option as an elective, would that be good to take too?
Since I am Dutch, going back to Europe is also a possibility.
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!
USYD / UNSW are the two top targets in Australia. I'd definitely try to transfer into one of these two if possible. Your uni might not be the most significant factor when it comes to IB recruiting, but when other applicants have similar experiences and grades, the non-target will be the first one to get dinged. An interesting stat - 70% of the graduate hires at the Sydney Goldman office are from USYD.
Grades are important. Aim for a distinction or high distinction.
No one really cares about your high school mark by the time you graduate, so don't worry about that.
Not too sure about UTS's credit point system or the IB landscape in the Netherlands so won't comment on that. Hope this helps.

What are your thoughts on finishing at a non-target (with a finance related degree) and getting an MBA or Master in Finance at a target?
Or, is it a bit redundent to get an masters if you graduate from a target with a finance related degree?
