What is the best path for me to get into Investment Banking?
Hi, so I want to know the best route I should take to get into Investment Banking?
Background
A little background about me is that I am currently a senior at a non-target school in NY. Interning at a small investment bank boutique. I am late to the recruiting process for internships, so I am delaying my graduation in hopes of landing an internship in the summer of 2024.
Question
I have been networking and applying to banks mostly middle markets. As I am talking to bankers they say that I am very late and that I should consider going into Valuation, Asset Management, or work at a Big 4 for a couple years and then lateralling into Investment Banking after.
What advice would you give me? Should I try getting into these jobs first after graduating so I can lateral? Is there any other roles I can work that can help me lateral into Investment Banking? Or should I continue to apply to these internships for summer 2024.
Bump
Big 4 or boutique IB is probably going to be your best bet for getting into IB initially.
