New User - Intro

Greetings! I'm an active duty, Marine Corps Captain who has served for 9 years. During my time in the Corps, I flew F/A-18 Hornets both in the United States and in SE Asia. Most recently, I've been serving as the Executive Officer / Operations Officer in a non-flying role. I'm leaving the service this summer and am moving to NYC. I'm looking to break into the finance industry there and am hoping that I can learn more about the industry and leverage the WSO community's experience to make the transition as seamlessly as possible.

Hi Matt,

I went enlisted-->undergrad-->banking, myself. Any interest in doing an MBA? That would obviously be an expensive and time consuming route, but it's definitely the tried and true way to go from Officer to Finance. Nothing's impossible, though.

Also, what areas are you interested in? I'd recommend reading about the differences between roles in the FAQ and getting a feel for what you want to target, if you haven't already. Whatever you go for within finance, you will need to really focus in on it, be able to convincingly explain your story in the context of going that route, and get up to speed for interviews.

All the best.
