Oxford MFE Work Experience Advice

Dear all,

I'm currently a fresh graduate from the Philippines with a degree in Economics-Honors and a minor degree in Finance. My goal is to enter Oxford MFE after working for 1 year, and eventually enter into a BB bank or a private equity firm. My long-term goal is to work in a world-class PE firm.

I am seeking advice on where I should work that would increase my chances for my Oxford Application: A local private equity firm, a local boutique investment bank, or at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) under its advisory side.

Any advice would help.

Thank you so much.

Hi Franco-Imperial, It's great to hear that you have your future plans sorted out. I wouldn't choose a specific type of job for the purpose of getting into the Oxford MFE. You should pick the career choice you truly enjoy. With that said, getting into a world-class PE firm usually requires IBD experience, so I'd opt for the IBD opportunity or PwC corporate finance. You could also consider the alternate route of getting an IBD job locally, then using an MBA to break into a world-class PE firm.

The Oxford MFE doesn't require work experience and the last round of applications is still open, so it's still not too late to apply. That's if you've taken the GMAT already. Do you mind posting your stats? I was admitted to Oxford first round and I'd be happy to give more extensive feedback.
