Not sure there's some secret answer here. I have a desk, a quality office chair, a keyboard, a mouse, and I connect my laptop to two monitors. That's essentially what an office is.
I have a massive teak desk from Bermuda probably worth $5000 and a gaming laptop hooked up to a 47in screen, perfect for large Excel docs, poker, or indoor cycling.
Go two curved 46 inch monitors, second BBG keyboard, my tiny laptop with Added 3ghz of ram, fan right above me and a smaller desk. Got the Peleton next to it and my 80inch TV to the right easy swivel, can easily play my PS5 during HR seminars and trainings.
Ok you beat me on the screens. Mine is flat but would buy curves next time.
Haha switched jobs during the great resignation and got a great sign on bonus and one of the perks was discounts at Best Buy and for Samsung so wasn't bad like $670 out the door on each one.
I refuse curves, but will scream quality above all else. My flat 43" 4k is unbelievably better than the cheap Amazon 55" 4k I had to move to the bedroom. The "extrawide" curves we have at work don't stink either.
Also, you'll love a vertical second screen. Javing my BBG home dashboard there is awesome.
Curved monitor is a must, I didn't understand it til I got one and within 10 minutes realized I had been a fool for several years.
Same as me. Resisted the curved screen for whatever reason, guess I thought shit would look 'curvy' and it simply does not. I have a 34" for home use and a 49" UW at the office, and without the curve, I'd find myself panning my head all the time to get a look at what I'm doing. I'd say there's like maybe a 2-3hr adjustment period to get used to the curve, now I can't live w/o it.
For OP - @CRE is correct, no secret end-all answer here. I've cultivated both my home office and work office setups to my liking, will note that the chair is the most important thing by far. The office had an HM Aeron, which I thought was a sweet perk but never planned to buy one. Didn't take long to grab one for me for my own office, incredibly worth it. On paper, it seems stupid to spend $600 on a fucking chair, but think about how many hours a day you're spending in it and the cost-benefit analysis evens out in no time.
Investing in your setup is pricey, but I just use the above rationale as self-justification: some days I'll be sitting at my desk for 8+ hours, so I will absolutely invest money into making it as fluid and compatible as possible. Am a fan of Dell for monitors, and picked up a dual set of KRK monitor speakers on HumanCentric risers, really recommend it. Invest in a solid webcam for virtual meetings, and I'm also a big fan of the BenQ monitor light I have for visibility on my desk.
Lastly, I wholeheartedly believe there is no better mouse on the planet than the MX Master 3S, which I've got for home and office. The MX Mechanical is also a pretty good keyboard which I've got for the office. Recently built my own custom mech keyboard for the WFH setup as well - forcing myself to stay away from that hobby since I know it's another money pit.
Lot of words, but I've spent 5+ years trying tons of different things out to curate my setup into what I like. Happy to drop any recs. Have fun and NEVER pay retail for stuff, sales will come!
Don’t have much to say about equipment, but do NOT work in the same room as your bed (bedroom).
One thing I have in my home office that I forgot to mention is Bose Speakers connected to a Sony Amp which runs to an adapter to a dedicated iTouch for music. The bomb. Pandora all day.
Two external monitors on an arm, switcher box so you can easily swap between your work and home computer without moving the cord or monitor, large mousepad, wired mouse with external buttons, mechanical keyboard. My setup is under $200 aside from the computers.
I'd love to know a switcher that is much easier than just flipping the inputs, that's been my weaker point currently running two Samsungs. I'm assuming you're not talking about a USB switcher box tho, right? Mine with 4 powered USB3 cables that can switch where they're going is amazing. If you're not, I'll recommend, if you are recommending it then I'll just second.
Any good recs for a chair that doesn't break the bank?
